Most wet room failures are not tiling failures. They are waterproofing failures — and they show up two years later as damp in the ceiling below.

A wet room has no shower tray to contain water, so the floor and lower walls become the waterproof layer. We tank every wet room with a bonded liquid or sheet membrane, seal every internal corner and pipe penetration with matching tape and collars, and set the floor falls before a single tile goes down. Every substrate is checked for movement first, because a flexing floor will crack a rigid membrane no matter how well it was applied.

We also fit adequate extraction as standard. An under-specified fan is the second most common cause of problems in a new wet room — it leaves moisture in the room, and moisture finds paint, grout and plaster.

How long does a wet room installation take?

Most wet room installations, bath-to-shower conversions and full bathroom refits take between 10 and 15 working days, depending on the size of the room and how much of the plumbing and electrics has to move. Because we do the whole job ourselves — strip-out, tanking, plumbing, electrics and tiling — nothing waits on another trade turning up. Do I need building regulations approval for a wet room?

Usually not for replacing a bathroom like-for-like, but the electrical work is notifiable under Part P and the ventilation must meet Part F. If we move a soil pipe, add a new bathroom, or work on a listed building or flat with a lease that requires consent, we will tell you at survey stage and explain exactly what is needed.

Can any bathroom be turned into a wet room?

Almost any, but not every one economically. Upper-floor timber floors, limited ceiling height below, and a soil pipe on the wrong wall all add cost. We would rather tell you at survey that a walk-in shower with a low-profile tray is the better answer for your room than sell you a wet room that fights the building.

Will a wet room leak?

Not if it is tanked properly. The waterproof membrane, not the tiles, is what holds water back — and it is the part you will never see once the job is finished. That is exactly why it is worth asking any bathroom fitter what system they use and how they seal corners and pipe penetrations before you accept a quote.

Do you supply the tiles and sanitaryware, or do I?

Either. Most customers prefer us to supply everything, so there is one warranty and one company responsible if something arrives damaged. If you have already chosen something specific, we are happy to fit customer-supplied items — we will just confirm suitability before we start.
