Carpentry & Joinery

Carpenter in Shoreham-by-Sea, Brighton, Hove & Worthing

Domuss Property Service is a local carpentry and joinery team based in Shoreham-by-Sea. We fit doors, build storage, lay flooring and handle the joinery work most builders leave until last — from a single sticking door to a full first-fix on a renovation.

We take small jobs. If you need one door hung, a set of shelves built or skirting replaced in two rooms, that is a job we will quote and book in — not one we will quietly ignore.

What We Do

  • Internal doors — supplied and fitted, hung, adjusted, latches and handles
  • Fire doors — certified FD30 and FD60 installation to BS 8214
  • Skirting, architrave and mouldings — replacement, repair and matching to period profiles
  • Flooring — engineered wood, laminate and LVT, including subfloor preparation
  • Kitchen fitting — carcasses, doors, worktop templating and installation
  • Shelving and bespoke units — made to measure for the space
  • Staircases — repairs, replacement treads, spindles, handrails and balustrades
  • Decking and garden structures — timber and composite decking, fencing, gates, pergolas
  • Second fix carpentry — the joinery stage on renovations and extensions

Small Jobs Welcome — and That Is Unusual

Most carpenters will not return a call about a half-day job. It is not laziness — a two-hour job three towns away costs more in travel than it earns.

We work differently, for one practical reason: we are based in Shoreham-by-Sea and we work in a tight radius. Getting to Lancing, Worthing, Hove or Brighton is a short drive, not an afternoon. That makes small work viable for us where it is not for a team travelling in from further out.

So if the job is one door, one shelf unit or one bit of skirting that has never sat right since the last builder left — call us.

Where it usually leads: a lot of our larger work starts as a small job. Someone calls about a sticking door, we do it properly, and six months later they call again about the bathroom. That suits us fine.

Doors Supplied and Fitted

A door that binds, drops or refuses to latch is almost never the door’s fault. It is the frame, the hinges, or the fact that the opening is not square — and swapping the door alone will not fix it.

We measure the opening properly, tell you whether the existing frame can be reused, and fit the door so it opens and closes the same way in January as it does in July. We supply doors and ironmongery, or fit what you have already bought.

We also install certified fire doors for landlords, HMOs and managing agents, to BS 8214 and current UK regulations — see our fire door services.

Flooring

We lay engineered wood, laminate and LVT, and we do the part that decides whether a floor lasts: preparing the subfloor. Boards that creak, cup or lift a year later are nearly always a subfloor problem, not a flooring problem.

We check levels and moisture before anything goes down, and we tell you if a floor needs latex or ply before you buy the material — not after.

What Does Carpentry Cost?

Carpentry does not have a single price, because the jobs range from one door to a full renovation. What we can promise is that the number will not move after you accept it.

For anything larger we survey the work and give you a written, itemised, fixed-price quote — no day rates, no “we will see how it goes”. If we find something genuinely unforeseen once a wall or floor is open, we stop, show you, and price it before continuing.

How We Work

  1. Call or send the form — for small jobs we can often quote from a description and a photo
  2. Survey if needed — free, no obligation,
  3. Written fixed-price quote — itemised and clear
  4. Booked-in date — you get a date, not a “sometime next month”
  5. The work — same team throughout, dust sheets down, site cleared each day
  6. Handover — we walk the work with you and issue your two-year workmanship guarantee

Areas We Cover

We work across Shoreham-by-Sea, Southwick, Lancing, Portslade, Hove, Brighton, Worthing and Steyning.

Our workshop and office are in Shoreham-by-Sea, BN43. That tight radius is deliberate — it is what lets us take on small jobs and turn up when we said we would.

Further out along the Sussex coast? Call us — for larger work we travel, and we will tell you honestly if a job is too small to make the journey worthwhile rather than quote a number that puts you off.

Carpentry in Sussex: Frequently Asked Questions

Will you really come out for a small job?

Yes. One door, one shelf, one length of skirting — we quote it and book it. We would rather do a small job well and be the people you call next time than turn it down and be forgotten.

Do you supply materials or do I?

Either. We supply timber, doors and ironmongery at trade prices, or we fit what you have already bought. If you have bought something we think is the wrong choice for the job, we will say so before we fit it, not after.

Can you match existing skirting and architrave in an older house?

Usually yes. Period profiles can often be matched from standard stock, and where they cannot, they can be machined. We will tell you at quote stage which of the two applies and what it means for cost.

Are you insured?

Yes — £2 million public liability, and we will provide a copy of the certificate before work starts. We are also independently vetted on Checkatrade, where we hold a 10 out of 10 rating.

Do you work for landlords and letting agents?

Yes. Door repairs, fire door installation and compliance work, storage and general joinery across single properties and portfolios. We work to agreed access windows and provide documentation suitable for managing agents.

How soon can you start?

Larger jobs are booked from the date you accept the quote, and you get the date in writing.
